Jen Michalski’s The Tide King is not only the best local book we’ve read this year, it is one of the best books we’ve read, period. Its magical realism emphasizes the realism while the mystical elements allow Michalski to take a long view of her characters, whom she casts as “gods who live in hell.”Thanks, City Paper, for making The Tide King a "Best of 2013." 7/25: "Best Writer" winner, Baltimore Magazine's "Best of Baltimore"
Honored (and surprised) to be a winner in Baltimore Magazine's "Best of Baltimore" this year in the category of "Best Writer." Although I suppose that's debatable, what is not is that I've been very lucky this year, with three books coming out (one of which was my debut novel) from really great independent presses and a lot of local accolades. Thanks, Baltimore. I'm Forever Your Girl!
